Welcome to the July, 2021 edition of LargeCarMag Online!
This is a feature that has been in the works for quite a few years. Virgil Nolt of Ephrata Pennsylvania, owner of Dutch Country Transport, and I have been talking about doing a 359/potato trailer photo shoot for years and we finally set a date and made it happen. As you can see it turned into a 359,379, and one A model with potato trailers shoot which, in my opinion, is even cooler!
Last year in the throws of our virus invasion, the cancellation of truck shows got a group of guys talking about having a small gathering of trucks in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. Without much planning, and relying more on word of mouth advertising, the turnout more than exceeded expectations and the Semi Crazy Truck Show was born. Considering it a success, plans for having a more structured truck show for 2021 was in the works following the 2020 gathering.
The 2021 ATHS National Convention was held June 3-5th at the Rockingham County Fairground in Harrisonburg Virginia. With the 2020 convention being canceled in person (a virtual show was held instead) everyone was more than ready for a huge event and with over 800 trucks rolling through the gate they got one!
Justin’s truck is a 2014 Kenworth W900L. It is a “glider” kit, with a Cat engine, and an 18 speed transmission. Up front, Justin’s W9 has a hand rolled end bumper, 11 grille bars, a visor from RLK Services, and 6” exhaust. From there back, things take a twist. Riding on a factory 310” wheelbase, his truck wasn’t always a heavy haul truck.
I don’t remember where I took this picture but I do remember seeing these two big Peterbilts.
Rich and Brenda Rukstalis own this 2018 Kenworth T680.
This month’s Diesel Doodle comes to us from age 10 Jeb Holdeman.

Bubba ‘s truck is a 1996 Kenworth W900L, powered by a 5EK Cat engine, with an 18 speed transmission. The 270” wheelbase, combined with the air ride front end from Air Ride by Horse, gives it a nice look with the 42” flattop sleeper.
Although we have been covering the 75 Chrome Shop Show in Wildwood Florida for many years I had personally never attended this fantastic event. I picked a great year to go as they had a record breaking turnout that filled the entire lot!
Philip Miarer of Fostoria, Ohio owns this 2018 389 Peterbilt. Philip’s dad has been in the trucking business for over 50 years and Philip had worked for him for 20 of those years, until deciding to go buy his own. He ordered this 389 through Clint Moore at Kansas City Peterbilt.
Jake Voelk of Dearborn Missouri owns this very cool 1996 Peterbilt 377.
It’s Sheffer Show Time! The date is June 20th 1987 and some of the sharpest east coast show trucks are converging on the Memorial Hall at the York, Pennsylvania fairgrounds. The 3rd annual South Central Pennsylvania Truck and Trade show sponsored by the famous Sheffer Beer Fleet and co-sponsored by American Trucker Magazine is ready to begin…
Age 7 Hudson Brown sent us this month’s doodle.

Welcome to the September, 2021 edition of LargeCarMag Online!
Derek, from Carlinville Illinois, has made this into one very unique 379! To achieve the aggressive look he was after, Derek added Badass front fenders, a Horst air ride front end, big hole Pickett front wheels, Dynaflex 8” pipes, a Walter Brothers deck plate, WTI double hump rear fenders, custom rear light bar, and a Walter Brothers flip bumper kit.
