I
truly lucked into this feature. I was hanging out at the Petro
off Exit 104 in Virginia, looking to maybe shoot a truck for the
Riding Around section. I was getting bored and decided to run
down to Exit 98. As I was getting ready to get on Southbound 95,
I saw a beautiful Pete with a very familiar paint job. I followed
the Pete into the truckstop and it turns out its my old friend,
Marvin Meredith. The 379 he was in was not the one that I was
used to seeing him in. This one is his rebuilt 1986 359 Pete.
In fact, when I shot this, he was on his way from PA, where he
had just picked it up from being restored/customized and was on
his way to his home in FL. This truck is a little more unique
than the last. It has the traditional long look from the sleeper
back to the full fenders. That wasn't enough for Marvin, he had
the cab and sleeper moved back to make room for a 12" extension
to the cowl, giving the hood a very long appearance. The truck
doesn't appear to be long, riding on a 333" wheelbase, the
truck truly is long. Some of the exterior accessories include:
7" stacks, a 20" bumper, a bow tie visor and WTI full
fenders.
The
interior is restored to stock condition including a new Corvette
style Pete dash. Power for Marvin's Pete comes from a 400 cat
routed through a 13 speed trans.
Marvin
lives in Haines City, Florida and hauls produce. I was very luck
to be not only one of the first people to shoot pictures of Marvin's
truck, but also, one of the first people to see it completed.
It sure pays to be in the right place at the right time and now
we can share it with you.
