Our
first truck in the readers rides section comes to us from Brian
Vang of Minnesota.
The
truck belonged to Andy Nelson. It is a 1963 351 pete. With a 47'
Fontaine curtainsider. It had a 270 cummins with a 4x4, but the
motor and tranny went bad so we put in a newer 350 cummins and
a 9 double over. In 1998 this truck was bought out in California.
It was all original, a single axle, day cab. (by Hub Nelson) Andy
Nelson (grandson) did all the work himself. Put air ride under
it, two axles, 36" bunk, new paint, new tires and wheels
and a custom interior. Andy was born on Feb 25, 1981. He died
on July 23, 2001, while being loaded a unit of wood fell on him
weighing 2500 pounds killing him.. The only thing Andy wanted
to do was drive, that is all he ever talked about, He had a calendar
on his dash and marked how many days he had left before he turned
21. Andy's Dad and Uncle are the dispatch for Nelson Inc, and
Hub is the owner,(grandpa).
Our
condolences go out to Andys family and friends. And to Brian Vang,
our gratitude for sharing with us and suggesting we share this
information with the readers of LargeCarMag. In addition, thank
you for your continued support and feedback on the magazine. Hopefully,
one day we'll have the opportunity to meet and thank you in person.
