Wards
Truck Center in Woodbridge, Virginia owns this incredible 99 Peterbilt
378 wrecker named Heavy Metal. The Pete rides on a 314" wheelbase
to accommodate the 35 ton challenger wrecker body. Power for the
Pete comes from a N14 cummins routed through a 13 speed trans.
The truck gets its name from the incredible graphics laid out
by Mark Long. The graphics consist of sheet metal panels airbrushed
on to appear riveted together. It must have taken hundreds of
hours to airbrush all those rivets. There are also some very nice
stripes airbrushed on overtop of the sheet metal graphics. The
truck also features all aluminum wheels and tons of custom chrome
and stainless accessories.
On
the interior, the Pete has an all chrome dash. A Sony stereo with
cd changer, 10 " sub and 600 watt amp and to monitor things
behind the long wrecker, it has a back up camera.
A
lot of people would look at this truck and swear it hasn't worked
a day in its life. Wards is located not to far up the road from
where I live and I can tell you, I see the truck working hard
on a regular basis. The truck works mainly in the VA, DC, MD area,
but does get occasional long distance calls along the east coast.
Wards Truck Center is a family owned and operated business with
Ralph, Donnie Jr, John, Chrissy, Michelle, and Peggy all helping
run the business. John Ward is the driver of the Pete you see
featured here. If you ever need towing or repairs in the DC area,
look up Wards Truck Center.
