This
month's model of the month comes to us from Allen Smith. This
model started from a Italeria Ford LTL 9000. Allen picked up a
second LTL 9000 model and used the frame to stretch the wheelbase
to a whooping 408". Other parts used off the second kit are
the clearance lights and fuel tanks. The engine is a cummins and
the trans is a 5 x 4. The sleeper is the original that Allen stretched
himself. Bob Smullings at Lost in the Fifties Decals supplied
the Holman and Moody decals. Ken Smith supplied other decals and
some of the ford decals were picked up at model shows. The truck
is painted in ford colors with silver pin stripes. He then purchased
resin toolboxes, a light bar and an air dryer from Clint Freeman
Components. The light bar, toolboxes and headache rack were sent
to chrome tech in Wisconsin to be plated. Next Allen added scratch
built chrome weights to the flaps and a scratch built bug shield.
The trailer is a stock Ernie Irvan Kodiak transport trailer. He
added monocoat to the floor to make it look like a checkered flag.
Allen then added 5 revell 427 ford parts pack engines to the nose
and added spare race slicks to the tire rack. He added mechanic
figures to the layout that his wife painted and an estes toolkit
for the mechanics. Then he added, a 427 ford fairlane car. Wire
wheel centers from revell of Germany were then added to the wheels
on the trailer. It took Allen a year to build this truck. Allen
says this truck would not have been possible without the help
of his friends particularly Jay Lockard.
